SAINTS LEGACY 2012 GALA “SWEETHEART SERENADE”
Saints Legacy Fund February Gala Raises More than $14,000!
The Saints Legacy Fund hosted its third annual Gala on February 18, 2012 at Acorn Park Golf Course. The Gala is the primary fund-raising event for the Legacy Fund whose mission is to enhance the learning experience in the St. Ansgar schools for children of all ages by investing in new areas of student learning and innovative programs.
This year’s attendees were serenaded by Mark Koenigs, alum of St. Ansgar High School, who sang and played the guitar during breaks in the live auction action. For the third year in a row, Lindsey Falk served as auctioneer. Falk goaded and cajoled the bidders. He interjected games of chance that got the audience involved and improved the fund-raising success of the evening. Said Falk, “It is a lot of fun to get together to enjoy an evening out with friends and support a good cause.”
Some of the biggest ticket items of the evening were memorabilia related to the Saints 2011 State Championship football team. Two championship footballs, a football helmet and a t-shirt all signed by the team brought impressive amounts for the cause.
At the end of the evening there was a drawing for an iPad 2, won by Delores Koster.
The Saints Legacy Fund has two grant-making cycles, one in each semester of the school year. Projects that have been funded include the Robotics program at the high school, the Youth Frontiers Courage Retreat for all middle school students and Cards for Caring Children in elementary school. 2011 OATMEAL DAYS
Lunch was served at the bean bag tournament and Big RED operated the dairy trailer all day. Big RED received $563 from the Mitchell County Dairy Promotion from the profits of ice cream sales that day.
SAINTS LEGACY 2010 GALA
Thanks to the generosity of the individuals and businesses that donated to the event and those in attendance, the event raised $12,000, surpassing last year’s $5000!
More than 70 people attended the “ENCORE” gala held at Acorn Park Golf Course on December 27th. Those in attendance were entertained by an encore performance from Sandy May, famed Glamazon and St. Ansgar alumni. The Glamazons achieved national attention when they were finalists during the “America’s Got Talent” television reality show.
Although the gala was an enjoyable night out by all, the intent of the fundraising is to support our St. Ansgar School district students. All those in attendance at the gala were surely entertained but also heard first hand from Devin Schwiesow, a teacher who’s students have recently received funding, as he stated that the Saints Legacy Fund has made a difference in his classroom and that the funds provides many future opportunities for his students.
To date more than $140,000 has been pledged or contributed from more than 120 different businesses, organizations and individuals to the Saints Legacy Fund.
Saints Legacy Fund board will once again come together for a grant writing session in February. The Board is now accepting grant applications from teachers or others interested in furthering the Legacy Fund’s mission, which is to enhance the learning experience in the St. Ansgar schools for children of all ages by investing in new areas of student learning and innovative programs. The Fund’s board of directors hopes to make grants totaling $5,000. Grant applications are available online at the website mentioned below.
SAINTS LEGACY 2009 GALA EVENT A SUCCESS!
More than 50 people attended the “New York New Year’s Eve” gala event held at the Blue Belle Inn on Monday, December 28th. Those in attendance were entertained by famed Glamazon and St. Ansgar alumni, Sandy May. The Glamazons achieved national attention when they were finalists during the “America’s Got Talent” television reality show.
The event raised more than $5,000 in funding with proceeds directed to the SAINTS Legacy Fund. The goal of the SAINTS Legacy Fund is to ensure continued high quality education to present and future students of the St. Ansgar Community School District despite the reality of reduced state funding support due to declining enrollments.
To date more than $120,000 has been pledged or contributed from almost 100 different businesses, organizations and individuals.
Members of the initial SAINTS Legacy Fund “donor directed board” were announced at the event. These donor volunteers include: Lindsey Falk, Sally Halvorson, Wendy Patterson, Nancy Woods, Paula Meyer and Treasurer Lisa Heimer. The group will be working in the months ahead to develop and publish grant making principals and guidelines; the plan is to make the first grants from this fund to the St. Ansgar School District this summer.
Fundraising efforts still continue. The SAINTS Legacy Fund is a “committee directed fund” through the Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County (FEMC). The Foundation for the Enhancement of Mitchell County is a 501 (c) 3 organization affiliated with the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation (GDMCF), the largest “qualified” community foundation in Iowa. All SAINTS Legacy Fund donations are tax deductible and appropriate IRS documentation will be provided to each donor by the GDMCF
